A year ago at this time, Terrell Suggs was having a career year. Now, he’s just having a year filled with injuries.

Then came Wednesday and another disappointment.

That’s when Suggs learned that longtime mentor and friend Ray Lewis, the team’s seemingly ageless linebacker, would retire after the season, his 17th with the Baltimore Ravens. jerseys from china cheap

“It’s sad—I’m not going to lie to you,” said Suggs, a five-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker who is about to complete his 10th season. “It affected me, because for the past 10 years of my career, I’ve been sitting right next to the man and going to war on Sundays with the man. I’m not sure there is a word that can describe it. Ray has definitely been like a brother to me. It’s been bigger than football between he and I.”

With Lewis’ departure, Suggs will become the unquestioned leader of the Ravens. It’s a role Suggs, 30, started assuming on Oct. 14 when Lewis was diagnosed with a torn triceps, an injury that sidelined him the rest of the regular season (though he is expected to be on the field for Sunday’s home playoff game against the Colts). Suggs returned from his first major injury—a torn right Achilles’ tendon—a week after Lewis went down, jerseys from china cheap as the leadership baton began to be passed.

After Suggs tore his Achilles’ in April, few expected him to play until late in the season, if at all. But he was on the field in Week 7 against the Texans and had four tackles—including one sack and one pass deflection.

It wasn’t a sensational game, but his comeback was somewhat of a miracle.

“I was pushing it, but there was never a time when I asked myself if I was going to be able to come back when I did,” Suggs said, speaking Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month. “I was just able to come off Week 6 and play. God has blessed me to be able to play, and I just did what my doctors told me.”

It has been a different Suggs in 2012.jerseys from china cheap

He used to be cocky and borderline arrogant, though he always maintained a sense of humor and handled life like a kid. He just lived it in a giant body.
